8th grade students develop leadership skills to mentor younger peers, create silence-based community initiatives, and prepare sustainable practices for high school transition.
From Practice to Leadership: 8th Grade Silence Skills
The 8th grade "Leading With Your Silence Superpower" curriculum represents the culmination of the three-year program. This level focuses on leadership, mentorship, and preparing students to maintain their silence practices during the transition to high school.
Students develop:
Leadership skills using silence as a tool to positively influence group dynamics
Mentoring abilities to guide younger students in basic silence practices
Advanced digital wellness strategies for sustainable high school practices
Skills for reading and supporting collective emotional states
Understanding of how silence functions differently across social positions
Knowledge of cross-cultural silence traditions and applications
Deep focus techniques for advanced academic challenges
Creative leadership methods through quiet reflection
Personal silence legacies to ensure practices continue beyond middle school
The 8th grade program features longer duration practices (5-15 minutes compared to 1-5 minutes in 7th grade) and emphasizes student-led initiatives. Students take on mentorship roles with 6th graders, design community impact projects, and develop practical strategies for maintaining silence practices in high school.
Artwork continues to serve as a visual anchor, with selections that represent diverse artists and perspectives that connect to the themes of leadership, mentorship, and transitions to new environments.
